OneTrust alternative for Indian startups
OneTrust is the benchmark in enterprise privacy software, and it is a good product at what it does. This page is a fit comparison, not a smear: where OneTrust genuinely shines, where its enterprise motion is heavy for an Indian product team, and what Erasure does instead. Descriptions of OneTrust come from its own public materials.
What OneTrust is
OneTrust is an enterprise trust and governance platform. From its own site, it covers privacy automation, consent and preferences, data-use governance, third-party risk, technology risk and compliance, and AI governance. It reports 14,000+ customers, including large enterprises, and it positions around 'build trust, measure and manage risk, and go beyond compliance.'
Where OneTrust is strong
- Breadth: a single vendor for consent, assessments, vendor risk, policy, and increasingly AI governance.
- Global scope: multi-regulation program management across regions, not just one statute.
- Integrations: a large catalog of connected systems, which is what enterprise programs expect.
- Enterprise readiness: mature support, training, certifications, and a sales-led implementation model.
Where its motion is heavy for a startup
The friction is not quality—it is fit. The buying motion is a demo request, a sales conversation, and a custom quote, with pricing metered on things like visitors or profiles. The product breadth assumes a privacy program with dedicated owners. For a product team that mostly needs consent proof, a data map, and working deletion, most of that platform is a program you do not have yet.
- Procurement is sales-led with custom quotes, not a published self-serve price.
- Scope is built for enterprise governance programs, not a two-person privacy function.
- You buy a lot of platform you do not use in year one.
What Erasure does instead
Erasure is built around the operational loop an Indian product team actually runs: consent with proof, a map of where data lives, deletion that runs against real systems, and exportable evidence. Pricing is published and self-serve from ₹0 (invite-only in beta). The focus is DPDP-shaped operations for founders, CTOs, and engineering teams, not a multi-year governance program.
- Consent with immutable receipts and a browser SDK, not a banner plus a spreadsheet.
- Data Maps and real connectors (Postgres, MySQL, HTTP, Webhook) so deletion is scoped and actually runs.
- Exportable evidence built from real events, with honest limits.
- One account, one bill, and a path that does not require a sales cycle.
Where Erasure is not a OneTrust replacement
Be honest about the boundaries. If any of these is your requirement, Erasure is not the tool:
- A full GRC suite: vendor risk, policy management, assessments, AI governance.
- Global multi-regulation program management across many regions.
- A large prebuilt integration catalog with hundreds of SaaS connectors.
- Enterprise SSO/SCIM and enterprise-grade access controls (not shipped).
- Certification-based trust signals from an established platform vendor.
The bottom line
If you are an enterprise running a global governance program, OneTrust is the category leader for a reason, and this page is not suggesting otherwise. If you are an Indian startup that needs consent proof, data maps, and deletion that actually runs, Erasure is a different, lighter shape: self-serve, DPDP-first, and honest about what it does not do.
